Fresh Stop Market Update - July 2018

Georgia’s first Fresh Stop Market successfully launched on June 6th in Taliaferro County in partnership with GFMA, Healthier Together Taliaferro Coalition, UGA Extension, UGA College of Public Health, and New Root, Inc.. Every other week through October, participants gather at the pick-up location to receive their share of pre-purchased produce. Before leaving to enjoy their fresh fruits and vegetables, participants have the opportunity to pay for their next installment of produce; helping to support the guaranteed sales to farmers and the sustainability of the market.

GFMA summer team member, Tara is a second year Masters Degree level Public Health student at Georgia State University. She has served as the Taliaferro Fresh Stop Market liaison since it began in June. She has been at each market on pick-up days and calls to remind participants of upcoming markets. In addition to the work she does behind the scenes, Tara helps with market set-up and fielding any questions participants may have. Thank you Tara for doing such a great job helping our first Fresh Stop Market run smoothly!

This market is a pilot experience for GFMA and we encourage feedback. We are looking forward to taking what we learn from this Fresh Stop Market to implement new ideas and practices into future markets. Our goal is to work with communities to find a system that works to ensure access to affordable, healthy and fresh produce for all members.
