Note from the Executive Director
Save the date!
As we move to position ourselves as policy and justice leaders, I am excited to announce our upcoming #FoodJusticeWeek which will take place Monday, March 18th through Sunday, March 24th. This week will be centered around food justice and policy and we have several events planned for everyone.
Monday through Friday we will use our social media platforms to post on matters related to the importance of food justice and how you can become active in the Just Food movement. We encourage you to use this time to engage in dialogue with others as we discuss food justice, policies, and opportunities that are available to small farmers, women, and other underrepresented groups.
On Saturday, March 23rd, we will have our Just Food Summit at Georgia Tech. Food advocate trainings and classes will be taught by Georgia food justice leaders and we will discuss our first issue of the Justice Journal. We will also host the annual Nourish training that supports our member markets and farmers. This year, the “Nourish!: A Guide To Incorporating Local Food At The Family Table” training will focus on organizing, and how to connect communities and utilize existing resources. Though these classes are open to the public, we will have preferential seating for GFMA members. Complete this interest survey to be one of the first to receive information about the upcoming summit. Later that afternoon, we will feature a screening of “Can You Dig This” followed by an in-depth discussion of the film and how we can move forward to develop an equitable food system experience!
Finally, as the name suggests, we will Plant Some Sh*t and participate in a city-wide fruit tree planting on Sunday, March 24th. To conclude #FoodJusticeWeek, we will have our Justice Fundraising Dinner at B’s Cracklin BBQ! The menu will consist of a low country boil and we will continue our conversation surrounding food advocacy and move toward discussing our Just Food Markets scheduled for this summer. This event will require a ticket and we will discuss more details regarding pricing in the next few weeks.
I am thrilled to be able to share with you the plans for our inaugural #FoodJusticeWeek! It is sure to be a very inspiring week and we look forward to shifting the conversation to food justice, and how we can all be advocates in the Just Food movement.
